My friend Chloe had a post about her slow and study weight loss that she has been having. I too have been slow in my weight loss this month. I understand frustrations, and desire to give up. Yesterday I went to the doctor. I talked to her about my weight loss, and realistic goals. When I began doing WW this time, I thought that weighing 145lbs would put me on the lower end of the healthy range, and it would be realistic for me. After talking to the MD. She said that it was way to low, and it would not at all be healthy for me. She said the lowest I should be is 155lbs, and the healthy range is +20lbs from that. I am really glad that I went and talked to my doctor about this because now, I feel very comfortable with my goal of 160lbs. It will give me flexibility of 15lbs, and not feeling guilty if I go up a little from my goal. I also talked to her about the new over-the-counter diet pill Alli. This is really not a good thing! It s the same thing as a prescription pill that has been out for years. It basically holds all of the fats in your digestive system, so it is not being absorbed into your body. The problem is that there are a lot of good fats that you should be eating, but they are not being absorbed int your body. Another problem is that once you go off the pill your body will begin to absorb the fat (that means you will gain it back). Also because the digestive system is holding all of the fat if you eat too much fat it will cause many runs to the restroom, and a chance for returning to the days of needing a diaper. This is not my idea of a good way to loose weight.
Now... lets talk about why I have only lost 3lbs in the past month... reason 1. I have not been tracking my food. I know that I am not totally going off the deep end, and I have not been eating everything in my sight, but I have been eating a lot of things that I probably should not eat, or too much of things that are just okay... reason 2. I have been lazy, and have not been to the grocery store in about month. I hate trying to plan ahead and have to think about cooking (not my favorite thing to do.) Life would be great if I could have a personal Chef. reason 3. I hate going to the gym in the summer because it is swarming with kids for summer camps. My kids don't like going to the child watch when it is so crowded. I feel a lot of guilt taking them there for 2 hours when I know they hate it. It will be better when school starts. It has also been around 100 degrees the past 3 weeks here in Ohio, and the humidity makes it feel like 110+. I am not going running in that heat! I have a health ride that I have used about 3 days a week, but I don't feel like I get a good work out on the thing... reason 3. I like Chloe am addicted to Diet Coke. I love it. I have been trying to cut back, and I limit it to once a week. (although I have caffeine free more often) I know that I need to give it up, but it is hard! I know from past WW experiences that ditching the DC increases my weight loss results, but it is so hard to give it up. There are many things on Chloe's last post that are true about DC, and how bad it is for you... but one thing she did not mention was that it has a lot of sodium in it. This makes you retain water, swell, and there for hang on to those few pesky pounds.

Ahh...yes, the water retention. It's funny that I forgot to mention that, as it was the reason I got off of it in the first place.
We'll just keep on truckin' along, won't we. Slow and steady. Slow and steady. It's so hard.
And yes, Alli is not great. My dad's wife felt the need to get some (she's not overweight at all, just has low self-esteem) and I can't help but wonder why. And, I've taken the prescription before. Let me just say, gross.
The thing you didn't mention (or the MD didn't mention) is that you end up having constipation issues once you get off of it, as well. Was that too much information? Yes. But still true.
Hey Jen, I completely here you about DC! I'm addicted to it too and once we moved out here to Missouri I decided I wasn't going to drink it for 2 weeks and see if I loose any weight (you know really see if it will help) and then next goal after that was going off ice cream or cutting back. Well after 2 weeks I didn't loose a pound! So frustrating!!! But I'm going to keep trying! This is fun reading your posts! You have a lot of good info! : )
